When Joan McLean opened the doors to her first coffee house in 1975, she forever changed the expectations of Canadian coffee drinkers. From her commitment to quality to her meticulous attention to detail, we abide by her principles today.
When Joan first introduced her unique fresh coffee blends roasted with care to Canada in the 1970s, she changed how we experience coffee. Today, her influence is still present in the way we source and roast every batch of beans by hand.
Born on September 29, 1937, in Ireland, Joan McLean grew up in the coffee trade before immigrating to Canada. Upon her landing, she was shocked at the poor-quality coffee Canadians were drinking. When she opened the doors to her first Joan’s Coffee House in 1975, coffee enthusiasts gathered to appreciate her rich and unique coffee blends.
In 1997, Joan changed the name of her business to Granny Joan’s Coffee House celebrating the birth of her first grandchild.
